Private Sector Investment (PSI)

The Dutch ministry of cooperation development offers two private sector instruments for collaboration between international partners and innovative Projects in developing countries. Upon successful application, the ministry of cooperation development helps to find international business partners (MMF) and contributes to investments in innovative projects (PSI). These instruments are available to companies in 42 developing countries.


The Private Sector Investment programme (PSI) is a subsidy programme of NL Agency, on behalf of the Dutch ministry of Economic Affairs, Agriculture and Innovation.
A PSI project is an investment project carried out in cooperation with a foreign company. The PSI subsidizes the project, which consists both of hardware (such as machines) and technical assistance (such as training, project management).

Project criteria
The project should be:
Innovative for the country in question;
Carried out by a foreign partner company in cooperation with a local company, in one of the eligible countries;
Consisting hardware (such as machines) and technical assistance (such as training or project management);
A first step of a new/pilot investment;
Commercially feasible;
Have a positive impact on the local economy;
Corporate Social Responsible.

Project budget
The PSI programme contributes 50% or 60% of the project budget. The maximum project budget is EUR 1.5 million.

Goal
The goal of the PSI is to stimulate sustainable economic development trough promoting innovative pilot investment projects in developing countries. The aim is to provide an important contribution to reducing poverty, by creating economic activity, employment opportunity and improved income.
